****Frequently asked Questions****

Why Hire a Professional? - As simple as it looks to just buy some cheap face paint and splash it on the face, not everyone is going to be able to give a professional job. I have been painting for a few year and in that time I have painted hundreds of faces. I use only top quality paints and equipment to produce top quality faces. With many hours of practice I am able to paint at a reasonable speed, which is what you need for little ones who don’t like sitting still for too long, it also means I am able to get through more faces.

What areas do you cover? - I am located in Monroeville PA 10 mins from downtown Pittsburgh. I do travel slightly further (Usually between Punxytawney all they way to Irwin pa to Pittsburgh Zoo) on special request, although it is not always possible. Be sure to give me plenty of notice and I will try my best to make it. There may be an extra cost for travel out of town.

What sort of face paint do you use? -All the paints we use are high quality FDA Compliant cosmetic grade paints, designed for use on the skin. I use  Diamond FX, Wolfe FX, Paradise and TAG. All glitter is approved for cosmetic use and is safe around the eyes.

Why is it so important to use professional cosmetics? -"Non-Toxic" "safe for skin". Professional-grade cosmetic face paints have been thoroughly tested. They are designed to be easy to work with, long lasting, comfortable to wear, vibrant and most importantly, they are safe!

Are The Paints Easy to Remove? -Most of the face paint should wash off with just warm water or a baby wipe. However, some colors can occasionally be a little tougher to remove use- (soap and water with a wash clothe/rag). You can also use Baby oil, tear free shampoo, and make up remover. I generally recommend washing off before going to bed, as some colors can rub off and may leave a slight mark on the pillow case.

How do you clean your face painting gear? - To keep everything clean and tidy I use baby wipes and hand sterilizer.  Brushes and sponges are thoroughly rinsed between clients and sterilized and cleaned between parties.  For health and safety reasons, we will not face paint anyone who appears to have a skin condition or any form of illness – instead maybe offering a neat arm design.

How many faces can you paint in an hour?  - I can usually paint between 8 – 12 faces an hour, depending on the complexity of the design.

How can I pay you? - Payment can be made by cash on the day. Online bank transfers through Paypal are also accepted but must be arranged before the event.  No deposit is necessary, although adequate notice of any cancelations would be appreciated.

What do I need to supply? - I provide all of my own face paint and gear. I just need a small space to set up, with good lighting and cover from the sun on hot days or shelter from the wind and rain in bad weather, indoors or outdoor is fine. If you are able to provide a table and chair that is great otherwise I can provide my own.

Do you do charity events? - We love to help out where we can, talk to us and see what we can come up with to help you out.

Do you only do face painting? - No, I also paint parts of the body arms and legs. I am always willing to try new things so don’t hesitate to ask if there is something specific you want done.

How do I make a booking? - The easiest way to make a booking is to email me at purpleskunk77@yahoo.com, as soon as you have an idea of a date, booking early is always best as we can book up fast. In the email it would be great if you could let me know the date and time of the event, the type of event and the location, and I will get back to you as soon as possible!

What is HennaGlam ?

  • HennaGlam is our solution to the "white henna" craze

  • It's available in white, and other colors!

  • Water Resistant

  • Long lasting, 1-7 days. Shorter on fingers, longer on the body

  • Non-Staining

  • There is no such thing as "White Henna", the henna plant only creates a reddish colored dye/stain.

  • "White Henna' look can be achieved with a variety of body art products, depending on the look and longevity you desire there are many options: HennaGlam, ProsAide Adhesive Cream or Liquid with glitter or mica on top, Glitter Gels, Mica Gilding Gel, Coloring, Temptu, Alcohol Body Paints or Face Paints.

What is HennaGlam made of ?

  • HennaGlam is created from ingredients approved by the FDA for skin and body art use

  • Water and acrylic-based ingredients, adhesives, and pigments, all FDA compliant for skin

  • Latex Free

How does HennaGlam work ?

  • Hair-free areas are best. Ouch, it will hurt when you remove it from hairy locations

  • Fingers will wear away first as they are wiggle all day long, legs, thighs, shoulders, arms last the longest

  • HennaGlam is thinner than henna paste. Our goal was to create a product that was as close to henna paste as possible so henna artists would feel comfortable, but we've found the thicker the HennaGlam the faster it wears off. So, we've chosen a longer lasting, thinner version. We think you'll agree this is the better choice.

How do you apply HennaGlam ?

     I add it the skin

  • Be careful not to smudge, it will leave a mark. It won't wipe right up like henna paste

  • Allow to dry, takes 10-30 minutes

  • You can dust with baby powder/talc/cornstarch if it feels a bit tacky, that's optional.

What is White Henna ?

  • WHITE HENNA does NOT exist

  • But you've seen photos for the last year all over Pinterest and Instagram?! YES, you have. Those photos are usually of LOTION applied in a cone. Or, of face/body paint applied in a cone. They make for super pretty photos but it washes right off.

  • Looking for a WHITE or COLORED STAIN? NOPE, not possible to create stains on skin safely with any other product than henna. Really, truly. The colored, imported fake henna and emergency cones made in India/Pakistan, etc are filled with toxic industrial and food dyes that are not approved for use on skin and are in super high and unsafe concentrations.

  • What can be used??? FDA compliant body paint products that are approved for skin. They don't stain, but they are safe. That's a good trade-off, right?! Henna Caravan's HennaGlam is a body art product made of only skin safe FDA approved ingredients. And we will have a rainbow of color choices, not just white!

Why do people call it White Henna, if White Henna doesn't exist ?

  • It was just an unfortunate misunderstanding

  • People saw white lotion used for henna practice on social media and just called it 'white henna'

  • Then people made assumptions that it was white henna and that it could stain and that it should last 1-2 weeks.

  • All based on misinformation

  • There are safe body art products that can be used to replicate the look of henna and that's what we are using, but it's not henna, it's not a stain or dye. It sits on top of the skin and does not soak in.

  • Henna style patterns on the body... people don't know what to call it, so white henna is what we got stuck with.

  • We would like to honor the history of mehndi and henna style body artwork, so at Henna Caravan we've chosen the name 'HennaGlam' for our body art products that can be applied in a henna style.
